Sheridan Family Movie Night!

Please join us this Friday, September 21st after school in our school auditorium for movie night. We will be showing Sherlock Gnomes. Students must have a parent present or a signed parent permission slip to attend. We will be selling nachos, drinks, and plenty of other goodies. Please come and join us! Sheridan Owl Bots Participate in Local District East Robotics Competition

Our Robotics team (Owl Bots) placed 7th in the first Robotics competition sponsored by Local District East this Friday, September 7, 2018 at Belvedere Middle School. They did a fantastic job of collaborating, problem solving, and placing our school in the top 10 category. Congratulations!

Author Chris Confer Visits Sheridan

Today author Chris Confer visited our school and modeled Math lessons in grades 3-5 and also conducted a PD with all teachers and support staff. During the past two decades, Chris Confer has worked to deepen and improve mathematics instruction at schools around the country. Wherever she goes, she finds the raw ingredients for success already present: "The potential for positive change lies within each school. Abundance is present in the form of capable children, teachers, coaches, and principals. Potential energy—what can be—transforms into kinetic energy—what will be—only when a force is accurately applied to move a school in the right direction."

Mobile Dairy Classroom Visits Sheridan Elementary

The assembly shows how milk and dairy foods are produced and how they contribute to healthy eating. The Mobile Dairy Classroom (Common Core aligned) teaches students the full story of healthy foods – from the farm to the table – and how they can make healthy choices for themselves.

Sheridan Street Elementary is Enrolling!

Now that we are off to a fantastic start, we would like to remind our school community that we continue to enroll students from Transitional Kindergarten (TK) to 6th grade. If you are aware of students that are not enrolled in school or are not going to school, please let them know Sheridan is enrolling and ask them to visit our main office.

Building Opportunities with Teachers in Schools

The USC Viterbi School of Engineering brings innovative STEM projects, programs, and professional development to PreK-12 schools and teachers in Southern California through VAST - Viterbi Adopt-a-School, Adopt-a-Teacher - the research-based component of USC Viterbi’s STEM outreach. Their goal is to help teachers and students in East LA gain equal access to 21st century digital skills, building demonstrable ability in computational thinking and understanding of the social significance of computer science.

At Sheridan Street Elementary School we believe our Mighty Wise Owls are Learners Today, Leaders Tomorrow. We will make certain that we continue focusing on turning our learners into leaders by creating a safe, nurturing and learning environment where all family members are valued and learning is differentiated to meet the needs of our students.
